Making international moves with pets can be quite daunting and time-consuming. It involves a lot of work and energy especially if you’re doing it without any expert help. It’s always best to hire licensed professionals who can make this process pretty smooth and safe for you and your furry family. When moving to international countries, keep one thing in mind that every state has separate rules and regulations for animal transport that you must abide by. Before making a final move, you must go through these all regulations to make sure everything goes smoothly in a legitimate manner.

For now, check out these 7 regulations for international pet transport in Hong Kong:

1. Microchipped pets

According to Hong Kong animal transport rules, dogs and cats must be microchipped prior to import. It should be an AVID 9-digit microchip or an ISO compatible chip. The pets have to be registered with the respective chip numbers and if they don’t have one, the authorities will microchip them on arrival before handing over to their owners with additional charges.

2. Certification of rabies vaccination

A rabies certificate is another important factor for international pet transport companies in Hong Kong. Make sure your pets are vaccinated and have a valid rabies certificate that consists of the date of inoculation, number of microchip and validity duration of the obtained vaccination. Pets with no rabies certificate are placed in quarantine to ensure that they receive the vaccination before going in public.

3. Latest vaccination records

Just like humans, animals also have different vaccination courses that must be completed for everyone’s wellbeing. Make sure your pet’s medical records are up to date with all vaccinations done on time. It’s important to show the latest vaccination records that are not older than a year at the time of departure.

4. Permit for international pet import

If you think you’re the only one who needs a valid visa to board a plane, you are totally mistaken! To let your pet tag along, you have to get an animal import permit from the Hong Kong authorities. Without this permit, your pet will not be allowed to board the plane with you or enter the country.

5. Veterinarian health certificate

The standard pet health certificate must be filled and signed by an accredited veterinarian. It should be issued within the seven days of the flight to ensure that pet is traveling in its best health conditions.

6. Hong Kong pet health certificate

Aside from standard health certificate, there is a Hong Kong health certificate that also needs to be filled and signed by an accredited veterinarian. This certificate should also be issued within the week of departure.

7. The age of pets

The last but not the least regulation for international pet shipping in Hong Kong is that animals should be at least 5 months old. You cannot import pets’ younger than this age.

If you don’t want your pets to be placed in Hong Kong’s quarantine, make sure these all requirement has been met.
